What’s in a name?
Why Mountaintop Tranquility?
As I was finishing my first book, 52 Good Things to Do, the idea of starting my own website crossed my mind. A website would be a great way to connect with readers and help promote my projects. But picking a name? That was the tough part.
I wanted something that encapsulated who I am. Every time I thought of a name, I Googled whether it was already taken.
Each time, it was.
I decided to take a break. To think bigger picture. I asked myself, what was one of the most incredible moments in my life?
Then, it hit me.
The most beautiful, calm, and awe-inspired moment in my life was when I watched the sunset atop Sulphur Mountain in Banff, Canada. I endured the terrifying, eight-minute gondola ride up the steep mountain and was rewarded with incredible views. But soon I noticed a staircase leading even higher up the mountain, to a small historic weather station. I hiked up and read the signs along the way: tales of scientists making the journey on horseback to study the atmosphere. When I reached the very top, it was nearing sunset. I was the only one there and as I spun around slowly, I saw snowcapped mountaintops in every direction, as far as the eye could see. I watched in awe, tears trickling down my face, as the sun turned the mountains shades of pink, orange, and deep blue. It was completely quiet except for the gentle evening breeze blowing calmly through my hair. The air up there smelled different—fresh and natural. Pure.
I thought about what I felt in that moment, and the word tranquil came to mind.
Mountaintop tranquility. I had it!
Our name serves as a reminder of the peace, calm, and utter serenity I felt while embraced by the glowing rays of sunset on top of that mountain. A reminder of the calm and awe that I aspire to discover on every one of my journeys, both great and small.
